360 Golf refreshes the challenge at Piltdown Golf Club
Remodelling will regenerate heather at 101-year old golf course
360 Golf has started a three-week project to refresh four holes at Piltdown Golf Club.
The Main Committee at the 101-year old heathland course recently commissioned a comprehensive course review, undertaken by European Golf Design, which revealed a gradual heather loss and the need to modify several holes.
Philip Russell-Vick, Greens Chairman at Piltdown GC, explained: "Our Members and Visitors will soon face new challenges at the start of their round of golf here at Piltdown. 360 Golf are making strategic improvements to holes 2 and 5, and are enhancing some existing features at holes 1 and 6."
Heather regeneration is a large issue at the golf club. "Keen to maintain our own heather stocks, we have found a local source of heather turf, and are working with this source in a mutual heather regeneration programme," continued Russell-Vick. "We are very proud of our traditional heathland golf course: by making these restorative changes we are improving ecological values and ensuring that Piltdown Golf Club remains a memorable and attractive experience for golfers in generations to come."
David Smith, Construction Director of 360 Golf, commented: "The golf course has no bunkers and is very natural in appearance. The design for new ridge and furrow features reflects similar unique features already present on many of the holes. These will be seeded and planted with heather this autumn and they will look fabulous when this has all bedded in, especially when the heather comes into flower late summer."
All 18 holes at Piltdown will remain open while work is underway.
