Agripower Contractors were recently challenged with providing an alternative solution for a recreation area at Whitmore High School in Harrow on behalf of Kier Harrow projects.
The original concept was to Construct a rootzone based natural turf area for all-year-round use as a breakout/recreation area. The grassed areas were bounded on three sides by three story buildings and the surface was to be elevated above the surrounding tarmac access paths.
Initial thoughts were that the ongoing maintenance costs would be too high, especially when considering the shading and awkward access, that the only real option would be to look at artificial surfacing.
After the first site visit Agripower designed a specification to enable Kier to achieve a formation from which the finishing layers could be placed. The final design solution was to install a 50mm dynamic stone layer underneath a18mm Schmitz foam pad. The selected grass surface, Lano Easy Lawn Living +, was made by the client based on the feel and aesthetic appearance of the carpet.
All works were completed By Agripowers' own staff ensuring high quality workmanship and complete control over delivery and installation. "With the facility being opened just two days after laying the grass there was no room for error" says Mark Swatton of Agripower, "Kier management and general staff were pragmatic and helpful, enabling a speedy and painless construction phase".

Well to me it looks like a shambles with the joint lines clearly visible and the colour inconsistant.
And Lucy WTF does this mean:
After the first site visit Agripower designed a specification to enable Kier to achieve a formation from which the finishing layers could be placed.

"With the facility being opened just two days after laying the grass there was no room for error" says Mark Swatton of Agripower,
And there is an error right there - There was no actual 'grass' laid ... just some plastic carpet.
This is poor journalism of a very low order.

Furthermore the headline implies the contractors were working at Harrow School whereas they were, in fact, making a mess at a school in Harrow.
Here's a more appropriate headline for you Miss Nicholls:
<em>"Agripower Fail to Make the Grade at Whitmore High".

Dear Sumomosr,
You clearly have an issue with Agripower Contractors. After speaking to the contractor, they would be very interested to hear from you and will be happy to discuss this, or any other matter, with you further. Please phone the office on 01494 866 776 and ask to speak to either Graham or Mark. Alternatively, please email graham.longdin@agripower.co.uk or mark.swatton@agripower.co.uk
If you would prefer to speak to either Lucy or myself, please call the office on 01322 424 499.
Kind Regards,
Tina

Not at all Miss Ribbins, other than being a little disappointed with the view of the finished product in the picture.
My main issue, if you re-read my comments is with the poor quality of the journalism and the sensationalist, as well as misleading, nature of the faux headline.

Just as a viewpoint, journalism/headline missleader aside,
I would expect that the picture was taken just after clearing weighted boards from the joints, to ensure the joints/tape seal and that the pile has not had time to return, it is still flattened giving a pile 'knap' shade difference, therefore making them appear to stand out, this is quite normal with most carpets and would go within hours.
Plastic.... it's The End I tell you... THE END!!!!

im sorry Sum...but i think youre out of order here chap...slating Agripower, the are one of the top 3 sports ground contractors in the country, i know, ive worked for 2 of them....the journalism, yes...incorrect info regarding the misleading premises.. it certainly gives the impression of Agripower working at THE Harrow school, instead of actually working at A school IN Harrow...and as for someone who is involved in the sports/leisure industry through your proffession as one of the most knowledgeable machine technicians i know, i am disturbed that you refer to an artificial surface as "carpet" as we all know in this proffession. any form of artificial matting is called grass....just as everyone calls vertical drainage machines "Vertidrains" where there is only one true Vertidrain by trademark...its a generalisation... i too would like to know how agripower has offended you...i know Graham Longdin and Grant Holmes very well, and they are briliantly proffessional people.. sorry mate but i had to say something...

Barry is correct. Nothing personal at all Ticky, I have never had any dealings with the subject company/people.
My angst is over the shoddy journalism and (from your and Barry's input) the clearly poor choice of photo to accompany the article. The directors must be disappointed that their 'good' work is portrayed by such a 'bad' picture.
As you note the headline is totally misleading.
My original post was using irony to highlight the picture composition and my reference to 'carpet was in deference to my understanding that 'Synthetic' should precede the words 'grass' or 'turf' when referring to artificial (non-natural) surfaces.
Those 'in' the industry may refer to 'grass' and know they mean plastic where those 'outside' the industry are better informed when a term such as 'Synthetic turf' is used in articles for publication. Just as privately you and I could converse about a 'donk' or a 'lump' and both know we were referring to the 'engine' in a machine.
A Verti-Drain is a Verti-Drain. Anything else is an impostor but the use of the generic is a signal to the dominance of the market by this one company. (Similarly Hoover and now every line trimmer is called a 'Strimmer' when B&D own the name, all hover mowers are 'Flymos...)
My campaign is against the lowering of journalistic standards of the media we are participating in. This article is an example of that imo.
And can you decipher the mystery paragraph:
After the first site visit Agripower designed a specification to enable Kier to achieve a formation from which the finishing layers could be placed.
