It is with sadness that I pass on the news that Alex Millar passed away last week.

A great many people in the Industry will have worked with him and all will have known Alex as a warm, generous and passionate man.

I first met Alex about 15 years ago and became involved in education and training as well as finals judging for the football Groundsmen of the Year awards sponsored by the Football Association. We often spent days together driving around the country and always found time to chat and discuss the issues of the day at events, shows and dinners that we both attended.

Alex spent a lifetime in the Industry and was always willing to impart his knowledge and expertise to others; he had great empathy with what we were doing on the Internet and whilst in his role as Chairman of the IOG in latter years, he was always understanding and sympathetic for everything that we all strive for - a united Industry.

Alex, you will be sorely missed and my heart goes out to your family at this time.

God bless,

Dave Saltman

I know that Alex had not been in the best of health for some time, but he never let that get in the way of his responsibilities as Chair of the IOG.
He carried out those responsibilities with enthusiasm dedication and good humour. Indeed I loved his dry and slightly wicked sense of humour immensely. He was great company.
Whilst not always agreeing with the direction the IOG took under his Chairmanship, he lead with honesty and integrity, and the Institute and all its past present and future members will always owe an enormous debt of gratitude to Alex Millar.
I am shocked and saddened by his death and pass on my sincerest condolences to all his family friends and work colleagues.

Of course the grass looks good. The sun is shining.

A true gentleman in every way, true too his word, always could see the funnier side of life and had time for every one he met.

Is honesty and frankness will be sadly be missed by all, no more so tha the IOG

sadly missed by myself and all who knew him and my sincere condolences to is family.

The future is bright, the future is EHU !

I am sad to hear of Alex's passing. He has been one of the key names in the IOG and Turf Care Industry and his enthusiasm and dedication to Groundsmen and Groundswomen will be missed by many.

It was a pleasure to have known him.

Alex was IOG through and through.
I first met him when I went to the USA with him and many other IOG members 22 years ago.
He had the ability to see beyond his own experiences for the betterment of the Industry.
A quiet conversation I had with him many years ago at the Lensbury club was the basis, I believe, for the IOG research fund as Alex recognised the importance of Objective data gathering.

A sad loss, and a lovely man.

He will be missed by many.
