The Amenity Forum is holding an amenity weed control conference on Wednesday 3rd October 2007 at the Central Science Laboratory at Sand Hutton, near York, supported by Defra's Pesticides Safety Directorate.
Over 90 representatives of local authorities and contractors have registered to attend. The conference includes contributions from, the Local Govt Association, the National Association of Agricultural Contractors, BACCS, the Environment Agency, East Malling Research, and Brent Council.
In the morning session the conference will focus on practical advice for contract specification and management, up to date information on legal obligations and best spraying practice in order to improve how we protect water from contamination by pesticides. The EU proposals for future legislation affecting amenity use of pesticides will be discussed.
In the afternoon there will be a presentation on an EU Project that has assessed alternatives for herbicides on hard surfaces followed by a 'real world' evaluation on their costs. There will be an opportunity to raise questions with all speakers at the end of the day.
