Every picture tells a story. Mike Taylor of Bristol based Mike Taylor [Machinery] Ltd hands the keys and reunites retired groundsman and I.O.G. member John Trott with the Auto Roller he took delivery of new in 1965,for the "Optimists" Cricket Club (now called the "Bristol" Cricket Club).
The Auto Roller had done sterling service for 42 years with the minimum of maintenance and a couple of heart transplants. But this season, all was not well and the roller needed either replacing or major surgery. The club decided on major surgery as the most cost effective option.
John Trott generously sponsored the purchase of the Autoguide's "Re power" kit, and the club found the funds for the fitting and renovations. The restoration was entrusted to self confessed enthusiast for all things mechanical Mike Taylor- specialist in repair of Sports Ground Equipment.
The Engine kit which includes full power steering arrived 1st Oct. The roller was duly dismantled, cleaned, welded, painted, rollers overhauled and reassembled. The engine was then fitted and test run, then well greased, and on the.25th Oct returned to the clubs current Groundsman Paul Redwood who was delighted with the transformation and especially the power steering.
