Well winter is finally here! Cold, icy mornings and plenty of cups of warm tea are the orders of the day however. This is also a crucial time to develop the "building blocks" for the forthcoming grass court season due to commence in April / May.

We are now looking back on an extremely busy summer schedule which comprised the Yorkshire championships, the club open championships and Yorkshire veterans, plus Chapel Allerton is used as a training base for Yorkshire based players who are competing in Wimbledon, Nottingham and Eastbourne tournaments.

We are now into our busiest period of the year when we have 2-3 tournaments including the Yorkshire Open Championships, club championships and the Yorkshire veterans.

We are coming up to a busy period in the grass court calendar with numerous tournaments and matches ahead. The workload is very intensive, our mowers are now out 5 days a week during the busy periods, not to mention the countless hours behind the marking machine.

Soil temperatures are now rising and now is an ideal time to overseed your courts.Sarrel rolling is advised before to break surface crust and produce an ideal tilth so any seed / topdressing will ameliorate into the surface. More Inside.

The frequency of cutting will be increasing due to the warmer temperatures. Start reducing now at 1mm increments per week until you reach the playing height of 8mm by May. Mowing should be at least twice a week in different directions to avoid nap formation and encourage tillering. More Inside.
