During my recent visit to Yorkshire I was able to meet up with two of the most influential Groundsmen in Barnoldswick Town. Who between them have spent the last 30 years maintaining and managing natural grass sports facilities in the Town. In fact both have worked in harness to raise the standards of the football in the town. More Inside.

Wharfedale Rugby Club are currently on a winning streak both off and on the pitches. The club was successful in obtaining an RFU community funding grant of twenty nine thousand pounds. Which was ear marked for pitch improvements that took place this summer. More Inside.

Many parts of the country have been experiencing spells of heavy rain with some places receiving in access of 60mm within three days. All Bowling green autumn renovations should have now been completed. The weather during November is not usually conducive to renovations as the soil and air temperatures are beginning to drop, resulting in the slowing down of seed germination rates which, in turn, reduces the opportunity of increasing new grass populations into the green.

Anthony Asquith has recently been promoted to Head Groundsman at Chapel Alleton. Taking over from his father (a role reversal). They have been working together ever since Anthony started as an apprentice at the club some seven years ago. Anthony has been very proactive continuing to increase is knowledge and education along the way. Culminating in Anthony recently completing is NVQ level three certificate in sports turf management.More Inside.

Its not just the Hatter's who are on a winning streak, their Groundsman Richard Bird is winning the war on Poa annua (annual meadow grass). The club have supported his aims of getting rid of the unwanted grass species by finding enough money to have the pitch completely renovated in May of this year.More Inside.
