It was a wrench leaving Aintree after ten years but, although there will always be room to improve the course, I felt I needed fresh challenges to keep my appetite in overload.
York racecourse looks set to provide me with just that, as I have found in my first few weeks in charge here.

There is a long break between our last meeting of the year, in November, and our first of the new season, the Grand National meeting in April, and there is a perception that me and my team of seven have very little to do. Nothing could be further from the truth.

In a matter of weeks the biggest steeplechasing event in the world will be held here, with over 148,000 spectators over the 3 day meeting and another 60 million watching it worldwide on television. The course has to be looking its best.
