Since the end of the ‘concert season’ in July, getting the pitch to its present level has been something of a challenge to us all here at City to say the least! Five concerts, almost 300,000 people through the turnstiles, around 130,000 of whom were on the pitch-marvellous! The fact that our staff end of season party was held in mid-July said it all about the clubs ongoing ability to hold high profile events all year round.

In the last year we have hosted the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the England FA Summer Tournament, the rugby league tri nations game between Great Britain and Australia, so it was no surprise really to be chosen to host the opening game of the Women’s Euro 2005 tournament with England playing Finland here on the 5th June.

Renovation time is here again at what is the end of our second season at the City of Manchester Stadium. The pitch hasn’t looked as good as our first season, but has played every bit as well despite this, helped in a big way by the Desso Grassmaster reinforcement. More Inside

Following my article in September regarding the Sportcity Arena which we have taken on as a reserve team venue, it was hoped that drastic works were to be carried out to rectify what was clearly a very poor pitch. In total we have played 8 games there up until last night and every game has had a doubt cast over it due to the fact that the drainage capabilities are about as good as a concrete floor.

The City of Manchester Stadium has been hosting the FA Summer Tournament with the national teams of England, Iceland and Japan all involved as part of England's preparations for Euro 2004. The groundstaff had to deal with a few interesting issues before and during the tournament! More inside.

Since my last article over 2 months ago, We have seen a great deal of use being put on the pitch at the Stadium. Six games in five weeks over Christmas, plus the first team training on the pitch in December-full details inside
