Since the end of the ‘concert season’ in July, getting the pitch to its present level has been something of a challenge to us all here at City to say the least! Five concerts, almost 300,000 people through the turnstiles, around 130,000 of whom were on the pitch-marvellous! The fact that our staff end of season party was held in mid-July said it all about the clubs ongoing ability to hold high profile events all year round.

In the last year we have hosted the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the England FA Summer Tournament, the rugby league tri nations game between Great Britain and Australia, so it was no surprise really to be chosen to host the opening game of the Women’s Euro 2005 tournament with England playing Finland here on the 5th June.

Following my article in September regarding the Sportcity Arena which we have taken on as a reserve team venue, it was hoped that drastic works were to be carried out to rectify what was clearly a very poor pitch. In total we have played 8 games there up until last night and every game has had a doubt cast over it due to the fact that the drainage capabilities are about as good as a concrete floor.
