Standing in front of the skyline and flapping your arms is considered one of the best ways to scare birds, the action supposedly mimicking an approaching bird of prey. However, the predator-death aversion method of bird control appears to work for Andy Bedoes of ABComplete Pest Control

The European badger (Meles meles), or Brocks, as they are often referred to, have complete protection under both the European Bern Convention of 1979 and the UK’s 1992 Protection of Badgers Act. Be aware of this, as even removing nettles from around a sett could cause you to face prosecution

The sly old fox is an animal of folk songs, legends and children’s books; they are often portrayed as the ‘bad guys’ - remember the fox brothers in Pinocchio? - but are also the heroes of certain stories, Disney’s Robin Hood and Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox spring to mind.

It’s not difficult to understand why rabbits are loved by children. I suppose the blame lies clearly at the feet of Beatrix Potter, Walt Disney and the like. Even Richard Adams’ gruesome Watership Down had the ‘aaaah factor’ as the little critters ended up living happily ever after. And then, of course, there is Bugs Bunny!

The European Mole (Talpa europaea) holds a strange affection with many folk thanks, in the main, to children’s stories such as The Wind in the Willows. That is, until the pesky critters appear on manicured turf. The havoc they cause is simply a by-product of the lifestyle they lead.
