With our first Championship game starting on Wednesday, it is very much all hands to the pump, doing our final preparations to the pitch.
As with the start of any new season, we have had the usual problems with machines that have been over wintered and then don’t want to work when you pull them out of the shed in the spring.

I suppose that somebody has to be first and we have had to look at new systems for a while now that will enable the ground to be used for events other than cricket. Lords generally, is only filled approximately four times a year and it therefore makes economic sense to look at alternative use of the stadium.

The entire field of play at the MCC is sat on thick, virtually impermeable London clay and for many years has caused heartache and headaches for myself and my team. The old clay pipe drainage system has long since silted up so over the last few years some additional plastic perforated drainage pipes have been added.

When I left school I became an electrician’s apprentice, the job only lasted two weeks until I decided that I hated the boss so much that I tried to electrocute him.
