With Warwickshire not playing their last game until the 25th of September, I and the team jumped the gun and used a break in play, between the 18th and 21st to start our renovation-details inside

At Edgbaston the wickets have been pretty flat, allowing the batsmen to score freely, but it has been an uphill battle for the bowlers. During the season it was funny to see the batsmen come in to through the gate with big smiles-full article inside

My main task was getting the first match wickets prepared for Middlesex on the 16th April and Hampshire on the 25th April, two games very close together and not allowing much time for preparation, especially with the weather not favourable. More Inside.

On the Friday morning, after a lot of rain the day before and overnight, I arrived at the ground to find that the company setting up the spectacular had laid a lot of cables across the square, which wasn’t covered. The cables were for a laser powered screen in the middle of the ground-full details inside

t the moment we're planning to do some work on the No 1 practice area. We've relayed 20 new wickets.The old bowling ends where the bowler lands were originally the former outfield; it is very soft and has taken some hammering from these heavyweight bowlers.

A testing time at Edgbaston with lots of rain but, ironically, with the difficulty of dry wickets. Several weeks to go, but already Head Groundsman, Steve Rouse, is planning for the end of the season on 12th september.

With our last game finishing on Tuesday, we now have a little bit of a break, before the four-day Championship game against Hampshire that starts next Wednesday. This game is then followed directly by the ‘Sunday slog’ with Nottinghamshire.

We have been working hard to get the square and the outfield ready for the first of our pre-season friendlies on the 12th April.We have cut out the wicket and surprisingly enough it is already dry enough and hard enough to play on at the moment.

Over the last two weeks the square at Edgebaston has been top dressed again, with about four tonnes of Ongar loam being hand spread on eighteen of the wickets. We worked this latest top dressing in to the new grasses with lutes to finish readdressing our levels for this year.

Well the season has drawn to a close and our renovation is well underway. The last games were played over a week ago but some of the wickets have been renovated going as far back to July. With the luxury of having around twenty seven wickets on our square,

I started my working life at Edgbaston at the age of 17 after leaving Moseley College. I stayed on the playing staff with Warwickshire County Cricket Club for the next 15 years.
