Has the All England Club lost its grip on the hallowed Centre Court turf?

The new roof has not yet whirred into action, but already its effect is being felt. Conditions underfoot have become more treacherous, according to Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic, while France's Julien Benneteau performed his impression of Bambi on ice on Monday.

With unbroken blue skies and not a hint of rain, the £80million retractable structure has so far acted as little more than an expensive parasol to keep the sun from frazzling the occupants of the Royal Box.

Nevertheless, Murray believes it may already have subtly altered the moisture of the grass on Centre Court - particularly for evening matches as the dew settles - as well as the lighting.
