Apart from the developments in pesticide formulations, the number of options for nutrient applications is possibly the element of turfgrass management that has seen most changes and product introductions. Various slow- or controlled-release formulations have been introduced; liquid formulations for foliar application has become more widely used; new organic and synthetic products have been developed; and different micro-nutrient carriers have provided more predictable release patterns and availability.

Where large percentages of Poa annua exist in mature turf, chemical control of the species is fraught with difficulties. Rapid killing of the weed grass in well-established swards would result in unacceptable loss of ground cover; in many cases, as much as 100%. Such devastation is unlikely to be acceptable, other than in a few exceptional cases.

Autumn is a time of the year when we usually see a greater influx of disease’s in turfgrass swards. This is mainly due to a combination of factors prevailing at the same time. Diseases of turf grasses result from infection by living organisms such as a fungus, bacteria, virus or nematode. A susceptible plant, favourable environment and a plant disease causal agent must be present over a period of time for a disease to occur.
