With Wimbledon completed, many tennis courts will be back to some sort of normality. The increase in tennis during Wimbledon will have brought some amount of extra wear on the courts, so it will be important to implement some time and resources to repair any damage caused by play. More Inside.

During the non-growing season from October to April, the club employs 20 full time staff including myself as Grounds Manager. I am ably assisted by my Deputy, Neil Harvey, and three chargehands leading the tennis, cricket/croquet/bowls and Gardens teams.

After the tournament last year we decided to invest in a Koro machine, albeit a smaller version so that it would work snugly on our courts. We Koro'd off five of the courts to a depth of 6mm, which removed all of the visible vegetation

This last week we have concentrated our efforts on weed control. I generally don’t like to use herbicides, but having spent the last couple of years doing spot treatments, we felt we had no choice but to offer the more pragmatic approach.

Very little mowing has been done this week because the temperatures have remained quite cold and growth has been slow.We had left the grass longer in the cooler areas on some of our courts where the ends are in permanent shade through the winter

The official start of the season is the 19th May, so we have some time to go yet. We are on a countdown to the Members opening day, which is good for us because we have a target to get everything ready for this day.
