The best or the worst court in the country ?

Think of the best Tennis court in the country and most of us straight away think of the centre court at Wimbledon. One family who might not are the Slaters, from a small village near Hull. The fact that their bungalow, hidden at the end of a cul-de-sac in this quiet village on the side of the Humber estuary, is called the Court will give you a clue as to where they think the best court is.

Chapel Allerton Tennis Club Head Groundsman Anthony Asquith is always keen on keeping up with the latest grounds maintenance methods and technologies. One way of doing this is to arrange a number of talks and presentations from some of the countries leading Groundsmen at Chapel Allerton Tennis Club. Working closely with David Robinson, chairman of the Yorkshire branch of the I.O.G Anthony was able to arrange for Eddie Seaward to come up to Chapel Allerton to talk about his career and developments at the All England Tennis Club. We are now looking back on an extremely busy summer schedule which comprised the Yorkshire championships, the club open championships and Yorkshire veterans, plus Chapel Allerton is used as a training base for Yorkshire based players who are competing in Wimbledon, Nottingham and Eastbourne tournaments.

The Hurlingham Club is a very exclusive private members club in Fulham South West London. It is situated on the banks of the river Thames between Putney and Wandsworth bridges and as such is only a ten-minute car journey from the heart of the West End.
