After the tournament last year we decided to invest in a Koro machine, albeit a smaller version so that it would work snugly on our courts. We Koro'd off five of the courts to a depth of 6mm, which removed all of the visible vegetation

This last week we have concentrated our efforts on weed control. I generally don’t like to use herbicides, but having spent the last couple of years doing spot treatments, we felt we had no choice but to offer the more pragmatic approach.

The official start of the season is the 19th May, so we have some time to go yet. We are on a countdown to the Members opening day, which is good for us because we have a target to get everything ready for this day.

Ilkley Tennis Club is one of the biggest in the north and head Groundsman Rod Wild is trying to ensure that all 14 grass courts are in prime condition ready for the target date for the start of the season on May 1st.
The highlight of the year at Ilkley is the open tournament, a week long British tour event from July 27th to August 3rd.

The visitors that come to the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club Wimbledon out of season often remark about the quantity and scale of the works in progress. For the last ten years there has been ongoing development that will continue, probably for another ten years. As soon as the last tennis has been played for the year,

Our work on preparing the courts for the playing season usually starts in earnest in March. The exact timing will depend on the weather conditions. As with all the procedures the timing is influenced by weather conditions.
