The hottest topic this year in the seed sector is coatings. Some shun them, others embrace a technology that marks a key advance in boosting the efficacy of overseeding.

Building on the runaway success of its Harrogate launch of the iSeed coating system, DLF Trifolium presents the pros and cons of grounds professionals utilising coated seed in their turfcare programmes.

"This year has definitely shown a huge increase in the interest and number of seed coatings on the market," notes DLF Trifolium Amenity Sales Manager Derek Smith, who is presenting on the subject at Saltex.

"As the world's largest breeder and producer of grass seed, we have played a key role in researching and developing several beneficial seed coatings," he adds.

Seed coatings generally focus on either improving the plants natural tolerance to stress and disease or boosting growth the initial critical establishment phase, he stresses.

The presentation will look at some of the commonly held myths of seed coatings and break down the key features and benefits of DLF's three main treatments - Growmax, Turfguard and now iSeed, which is claimed to be the first true full strength fertiliser coated directly on to the seed.

Visitors will have the opportunity to see trial results and ask questions.
