Conwy Golf Club, home for the Ryder Cup Wales Seniors Open for the past two years and venue for the prestigious European Amateur Team Championship in 2009, has purchased two of the latest Jacobsen Eclipse 322 diesel-electric hybrid machine from local Ransomes Jacobsen dealer, John Osman Groundcare.
For the past 31 years head greenkeeper David Lewis has worked at the club, after replying to an advertisement in a Jobcentre window for a six-week job topdressing the greens and fairways, back in 1980. He has six full-time staff to maintain this famous links course, renowned throughout the area as one of the most challenging of its kind and situated at the mouth of the estuary of the River Conwy.
Commenting on the new mowers David Lewis said, "The club's finance director, Bill Edwards was the driving force behind the purchase of the two Eclipse mowers. I used to have Jacobsen Greens King IV, so I'm confident in the quality of cut from the Jacobsen cutting units. I must admit I was sceptical at first, but they are comfortable to use and are a good greens mower. They were delivered quite late in the season, so we haven't had a lot of use and time will tell if they live up to claims made by the Jacobsen people. However, I do like them, especially the lack of hydraulic oil."
