Clifton Cricket Club chairman Roger Jones is down to the last three in the chase for a BBC Sport East Midlands Unsung Hero award.

It is 43 years since Jones - also known as Jack - used to borrow a bike to get to training sessions at the village club near Ashbourne and he still devotes more than 30 hours a week to Clifton.

In those years he has filled virtually every job possible. He is, or has been, the club's groundsman, junior coach, umpire, scorer, captain, tea-maker, fund-raiser and cook for hundreds of barbecues.

Scores of club members and well-wishers turned out to watch BBC cameras film him at Clifton for a programme about the sports awards, which was shown on Thursday night.

"I am completely overwhelmed with the turnout and the messages of support that keep rolling in," said Jones.
