Competitive golf is just starting at Baildon with golfers and ground staff hoping for a better year than 2001.Then the West Yorkshire moor land course was closed for five months for foot and mouth – a restriction that was ended only when the authorities to cull the sheep that graze on the moor.

While the tourism industry suffered, some sports clubs also found themselves adhering to the Environmental Agency guidelines to avoid the spread of disease. In the case of two Bradford league cricket clubs, Denholme Clough and Eldwick and Gilstead, alternative venues had to be found.
Foot and Mouth ruins Summer Sport

Imagine spending all winter preparing your ground for the new cricket season and then not being able to play on it.
That was the fate suffered by two clubs on opposite hill tops a few miles from Bradford city centre during last year’s foot and mouth crisis.
