EIGCA launches new qualification in Golf Course Architecture
The European Institute of Golf Course Architects (EIGCA) has announced the launch of a new post-graduate Diploma in Golf Course Architecture.
Speaking at the National Turfgrass Foundation (NTF) Annual Conference (Southport, Tuesday 30th November), chairman of the Institute's Education Board said EIGCA was responding to a strong demand for formal training in golf course design.
"EIGCA recognises its responsibility to train new golf course architects in order to achieve and maintain a high standard of design and professional expertise. The principal aim of this new course is to teach the skills and knowledge required for a career in golf course architecture, although it will also appeal to individuals who are simply pursuing an interest in the subject," he said.
The new course will be offered from the summer of 2005 and will be run as a distance-learning programme over a period of two years. It involves ten weeks of intensive tuition at five centres and teaching will take the form of lectures, field studies and design workshops. Students will also seek work placements in a design practice during the two years of the programme.
