This Sunday (16th September), Rotherham Phoenix Cricket Ground is hosting a benefit match to raise money for three cricket clubs in the area whose grounds were badly damaged by the floods earlier in the summer.

The 25 overs per side match between South Yorkshire X1 and Yorkshire County Cricket Club hopes to raise badly needed funds for Wath-upon-Dearne, Oughtibridge and Shiregreen Cricket Clubs. The match will be umpired by John Hampshire.

There's a £1 entrance fee which includes a programme and there's an opportunity to win an autographed cricket bat. A barbeque will be available from 1.30pm and the match begins at 2.30pm.

The main fund raising activity is a raffle with tickets available at £1 per strip. There are some fantastic prizes up for grabs including a Michael Vaughan autographed cricket bat donated by Sheaf Sports & Trophies, a night for two and dinner at the Hellaby Hall Hotel, £50 Marks & Spencer vouchers, two north stand tickets to see Sheffield Wednesday FC and much more.

All three clubs' grounds were devastated by the floods and this event has been organised to raise money towards ground and pavilion renovations. Their club members along with members of other local clubs have put hours of work into clearing and restoration, but there's a substantial financial burden. All three clubs have both senior and junior sides, their loss would be a tragedy and one less activity available to young people in the area.

Pitchcare has been helping Oughtibridge with its ground renovations since pictures of their ground were posted on the message board in July. Work is well underway thanks to the support of Oliver Warriner Landscapes, GSB Loams, British Seed Houses, Carl Pass at Premier Pitches and ECB Pitch Advisor Allan Kettleborough. We'll be running a special feature in the next issue of the magazine.

So if you're in the South Yorkshire area and you're free on Sunday afternoon, please do come along and enjoy an afternoon of cricket while helping these clubs.

The ground is at Pavilion Lane - off Bawtry Road, Brinsworth, Rotherham, S60 5PA. It's just off junction 33 of the M1.

Just a thought here. There are 28,000 odd members of Pitchcare. If an address was posted, we all could make a small donation even if we can't turn up at the ground. I'm going to recommend a donation is sent from our club, even if it is in the Red Rose County! We had rain, yes, but we didn't lose the entire club!

That's very generous eddyinfreehold, I'm sure they'll be most grateful.

The address for donations is Jack Bland, 158 Lyminster Road, Sheffield, S6 1JB. Please make it clear that the donation is for 'Flood Relief'. Cheques should be made payable to the 'Sheffield & District Ben Jessop Junior Cricket League' (if you can fit all that on the cheque!)

Thanks, I'll get it sorted
