Blec are set to revolutionise drainage problems on golf courses with their latest creation which has been specifically designed and developed for use on fine turf areas such as golf greens, tees and fairways.

This new exciting product is called the Sand Injector and is scheduled for official launch at 2008 Harrogate Week. This PTO driven machine is claimed by Blec to effectively solve the problems of poor drainage on traditional non- sand based golf greens by injecting sand into 15mm slits at depths of up to 150mm with 260mm spacings. This allows approximately 5 tonnes of Silica sand to be injected into to a 500 sq metre golf green without interrupting play. Over a short period of time this would enable a golf club to introduce say 20 tonnes of sand into the rootzone of each green with four applications, creating a free draining semi-sand based green. The total cost would be approximately £500.00 per green or £10,000.00 (400 tonnes @ average £25.00 at today's prices) per hectare of greens.

"Creating slits each time sand is injected means that clubs can benefit from a sand matrix to maximize surface and rootzone drainage and root development. When the cost of replacing and rebuilding a new green and the upheaval and related lost revenue is considered, this seems a very viable proposition. Because the Sand Injector is constructed with a vibrating feed mechanism, it is suitable for applying moist silica sands without bridging and not just restricted to expensive and weather temperamental kiln dried sands. There are also plans to introduce a brand new tractor mounted pneumatic decompactor and sand injector for Saltex 2008 demonstrating that Blec intends to lead the market in sand drainage system technology.
