Charnock Richard FC's Harold Heaton has picked up the club's first silverware of the season after being voted the 'FA's National Groundsman of the Year for 2008' at their level.
Mr Heaton, who is also a member of Chorley Borough Council, received his certificate at half-time in the Premier League match between Wigan Athletic and Aston Villa at the JJB Stadium.
He said: "I am pleased to get the award but you do not get things like this by just sitting around.
"It is great both individually and for the club as a whole to get this award but there is a lot of hard work to keep the ground in good nick.
The assessors came in February and it was two thirds through the season so you have to get the playing surface flat by replacing all the divots."
Harold spends at least 10 hours per week at the ground and also helps tend the village's cricket pitch in the summer as he's the chairman of the club. Club official Eric Crompton said: "It is a feather in our cap and in his to get such an award.
"We are very happy for Harold and we often get people from other teams telling us about the great facilities we have here but it is credit to all the hard work he puts in."
