Magazine - Headland's Prize Draw gives trees to combat global warming

Headland are giving a total of 340 trees to winners of their Harrogate prize draw in a bid to combat the company's part in global warming. The first five names out of the hat will each receive 68 ready-for-planting native species to use on their own sports facility or donate to the organisation of their choice.

The brain-child of Operations Director Mark De Ath, who has planted around 850 trees himself over the last few years in the form of native mixed hedging, shelter belts and a copse on his own property, the idea came as a response to calculations of the company's annual CO2 emissions.

"We are aware that Headland generates CO2 emissions by the use of company cars, airline flights and the delivery of goods to our customers," he says "and we are aiming to neutralise these effects by introducing native trees into the environment. We estimate that around 170 trees need to be planted to offset this each year, so by doubling up the numbers required and offering 340 trees we are going a stage further."

Visitors can enter by completing an entry form on the Headland Amenity stand (C26) any time BEFORE 12.00 NOON on THURSDAY 25th JAN. when the five winning forms will be drawn. Information sheets on planting will be available.
