Blues forward coach Martin Hynes hailed the spirit of Bedford rugby club after 200 people turned up to help clear the pitch prior to their match with Bristol on Boxing Day.

With the pitch covered in snow just hours before kick-off, it took a monumental effort from fans and groundsmen just to the game to ahead and it did so with Bedford running out 39-22 winners.

Hynes said: "It was fantastic to see all the fans that turned up this morning. Bedford is still one of the proper, old-fashioned rugby clubs where it really matters to the people in the town and this morning just shows that.

"Also to get over 4,000 people here was a great effort and it' great that the lads can get a win out of it with a bonus point.

"I'm just so pleased for the club and all the people that put the effort in to get the game played."
