I O G Breaks new ground with it's push for CPD-Based training

The Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG) is on the threshold of introducing a revolutionary new method of 'grading' the skill levels of grounds professionals throughout the UK and Eire via the introduction of a nationally-recognised Continuing Professional Development (CPD) based scheme.
Plans are well advanced to establish the CPD-based training and skills programme within the next two/three years, to provide grounds professionals with their first ever structured skills programme for all sports surfaces (except golf).
The IOG is working closely with various bodies such as City & Guilds, local councils and colleges to determine the exact structure of the approach.
For example, it is likely that some measure of 'distance learning' will be introduced to enable training modules to meet the varied multi-tasking demands and accompanying time constraints now placed on grounds professionals.
In addition to providing individuals with a logical route up the skills ladder - and the improved recognition and the rewards that should be associated with that - IOG Training & Education Manager David Winn says the new programme will be based on the established principles and training courses that have successfully served thousands of grounds maintenance and management professionals who have benefited from IOG courses over many years.
IOG courses are currently endorsed and supported by all the major governing sporting bodies within England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and, via the IOG's City & Guilds Programme, they enable individuals to gain industry-wide recognition for their skills and expertise.
The City & Guilds Senior Awards in SportsTurf Management, the Licentiateship Award (comparable to NVQ Levels 4) and the City & Guilds Graduateship Award (comparable to Honours Degree or NVQ Level 5) are internationally recognised.
