A Jacobsen HR 5111 wide area rough mower, purchased from local Ransomes Jacobsen dealer Bartram Professional, is working five days a week from April to September at Barnham Broom Golf & Country Club in Norfolk.

Set in the River Yare Valley within easy reach of Norwich, Barnham Broom has two courses of contrasting character: the Valley Course is a Frank Pennick design and comprises abundant water features which blend into the delightful natural landscape; the Hill Course, also by Pennick has been modified by Donald Steel, and enjoys fine views over the surrounding countryside.

"The two courses occupy around 275 acres," says Head Greenkeeper Brian Lemmon, "so we become a grass factory throughout the summer. We need durable and reliable equipment and the HR 5111 certainly falls into that category.

"It's got a 49hp engine, a short wheelbase and power steering which makes it highly manoeuvrable with a tight turning circle. The cutting width is almost 3.5 metres and you can lift the individual decks in tight spots, which is great around trees and other landscape features. If we have a normal summer, we'll work it almost non-stop from April through to September."

As well as adding the HR 5111 to his fleet this season, Brian also purchased a Jacobsen G-Plex III greens mower and a Tri-King triplex for tees and surrounds.
