John Deere is pleased to announce that it has teamed up with the National Nines Open Championships golf tournament in 2009.
Now in its 11th year, National Nines is the only national championship exclusively open to members of 9-hole golf clubs, of which there are currently 538 in the UK. Regional qualifying competitions are held throughout the year for teams of three players, who need to hold a bona fide EGU-affiliated handicap.
The winning team from each regional final is invited to take part in the national final, which will be held in September at the Les Ormes Golf and Leisure Village in Jersey. Last year's winners, with an aggregate team score of 82 points over the same course, were Greenisland Golf Club from Co Antrim, Northern Ireland. The first regional final of 2009 takes place on April 4th at Wheatlands Golf Club in Jersey.
"With this new partnership, John Deere is giving participating clubs the opportunity to buy discounted golf course maintenance equipment, and all players will also be eligible for discounts on the company's extensive range of garden machinery," says Henry Bredin, John Deere Limited's product marketing manager, commercial equipment. "Nine-hole golf courses are an important part of the game in the UK, and we are very happy to be associated with this event."
