Central Scotland golf course, Kingsfield Golf Centre, has specified the use of Barenbrug's BAR Platinum across its newly constructed course.

Expanding on an existing driving range, construction began on the 76-acre site in Linlithgow back in August 2007. The course is the brainchild of Kingsfield Leisure managing director, Robert Arkley, whose aim was to create an accessible nine-hole course providing golf to all ages and abilities on a pay-as-you-play basis.

Robert, whose family has farmed the site for five generations, specified the use of BAR Platinum on the advice of Graeme Webster of the renowned Team Niblick golf course design and construction. "Graeme recommended Barenbrug for the seeding of the new course and, having already seen its successful use on the driving range, I was more than happy to use it again."

Offering heavy wear-tolerance, fast establishment and exceptionally fine characteristics, BAR Platinum has been a hit with golf courses since its introduction in 2007. Key to the mixture is Bargold, a perennial ryegrass bred specifically for its superior fineness of leaf.

Revolutionising the use of perennial ryegrass in golf, Bargold enables greenkeepers to enjoy the benefits of this cultivar without the coarseness of leaf it is otherwise known for. Robert is certainly impressed with the mixture's performance. "I must say that the establishment throughout the course and on the Ochil putting range is sensational!"

Having seen BAR Platinum successfully used at Kingennie Golf Course at Broughty Ferry near Dundee, Billy Nimmo, Barenbrug's Scottish manager, says he's delighted that another Scottish course is set to experience its benefits. "I'm confident that Kingsfield will reap the rewards of this innovative mix," he comments.

"BAR Platinum has everything going for it - it's hard-wearing and has a fabulous, lush green appearance. Some people are sceptical that you can mow it down to 5mm, but I think you can get it down even lower. It's a fantastic product and I would have no hesitation recommending it for use on golf courses across Scotland."
