A former Myerscough College student has secured a dream six month placement working at the Augusta National Golf Club, home of the US Masters.
21-year-old Abi Crosswood, from Newquay, studied the Online FdSc Sportsturf Degree with the College and secured the placement through the Ohio State Intern Program. As part of her internship, she will be heavily involved with the maintenance of the greens as well as the preparations for the 2010 Masters. She currently works at Newquay Golf Club, where she has been granted the time off by Course Manager Andrew Dunstan.
She said: "This is an unbelievable opportunity for me and I can't wait to get started. I'd like to thank everybody at Myerscough College and The Ohio State Intern Program, as well as my colleagues at Newquay Golf Club, for helping to make this happen for me."
Mike O'Keefe, Program Manager for the Ohio Program, has been placing Myerscough students for over 20 years, and it was he who managed to secure her placement in America.
He commented: "This is a fantastic chance for Abi to work at one of the top golf clubs in the world. She is a terrific girl and has shown great enthusiasm to stretch her wings and gain further experience. I expect her to do very well at the Augusta and go on to have an excellent career in green keeping."
Abi is only the second female from the UK to be successful in gaining an internship at the Augusta National, following on from Wendy O'Brien, who also studied with Myerscough and now works as a successful Superintendent in Spain.
