New compact is biggest in class

Press Release

Featuring a 62hp Tier 2 low emission diesel engine and eHydro hydrostatic transmission, John Deere's new four wheel drive 4720 compact tractor is now the biggest in the company's range.

A 4720 model assembled at Deere's state of the art factory in Augusta, Georgia recently became the 500,000th compact utility tractor manufactured by John Deere since production started in the USA in 1978.

The 4720 comes as standard with the new ultra-quiet 80dB(A) ComfortGard fully integrated cab, making it particularly suitable for use by contractors, councils and local authorities. Based on the existing 52hp 4520 model, the tractor generates an extra 10hp from the same John Deere PowerTech four cylinder, 2.4 litre turbocharged engine, producing plenty of power and torque for a range of hauling, loading and lifting jobs.

John Deere's exclusive Load and MotionMatch features on the standard three range, twin pedal eHydro transmission are designed to provide improved performance in all conditions and for all applications.

LoadMatch is an electronic power management system, similar to that found on larger agricultural and construction equipment, which maximises the available torque by automatically adjusting transmission speed under load. Not only is the necessary power always available for the job in hand, it has the extra benefit of making it impossible to stall the engine.

MotionMatch makes it easier to switch between tasks such as loading, mowing or spraying and aerating, where different working speeds and transmission response times are required. The operator simply switches between pre-set speeds by pressing a button.

Further features include a rear lift capacity of 1423kg, standard rear and optional mid-mounted ptos, and a new digital performance tracking system. This gives the operator instant information on all the machine's functions, including tractor and pto speeds, as well as on-board diagnostics.

Additional equipment such as John Deere's newly styled front loader is easy to hitch up and use. The loader's quick-change design allows fast attachment of 4-in-1 buckets, pallet forks, blades and a range of other implements.

Base price of the new John Deere 4720 compact tractor, which comes with a two year warranty and includes the ComfortGard air conditioned cab, is £22,677 (33,247 euros in Ireland), excluding VAT.
