Golborne Cricket Club has been awarded £14,000 to improve their ground.
The Bolton Association club will use the money on a drainage system.
The money has been provided by independent funding body Viridor Credits who hand out money to support environmental, conservation and community projects through the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF).
Golborne were eligible for the scheme due to the club's proximity to the Whitehead landfill site which is managed by Viridor Waste Management.
The existing drainage system in place at Golborne is not considered to be good enough and the playing surface has suffered, affecting the availability of the pitch for scheduled matches, training and coaching sessions.
Club spokesman Graham Marston, said: "We are so grateful for the funding, which will resolve the drainage problems. As a result of the water being removed more efficiently from the playing surface to the drains below, we will be able to use the pitch much more frequently when required.
"Everybody, young and old, that plays and works at the club thanks Viridor Credits and I suggest other community organisations and groups take advantage of this scheme."
