It is with great sadness that, after a short illness, Chalky passed away on Saturday, March 26.

To me Chalky has been a massive influence on my career and personal life. Indeed I could not have wished to have a better friend.

He started his career as groundsman at Southampton's old Dell stadium before taking over at Tottenham in 1976. During the next nine years White Hart Lane staged many great games, including the UEFA Cup Final in 1984 as Colin created a pristine surface that the then manager Keith Burkinshaw often described as "the best in the country."

Chalky left Spurs in 1985 to take on a sales role with Rigby Taylor and then worked for Avoncrop until this year.

Throughout his life he always loved the Saints and was a season ticket holder at St Mary's Stadium.

The funeral on Wednesday 6th April 2005 is open to all. The arrangements are as follows:

12pm Basingstoke crematorium.
2pm St John's Church, New Alresford - a Celebration of Chalky's life.
3pm Alresford Golf Club

Floral tributes or donations to: "McMillan Cancer Relief" can be sent c/o: R.S. and Partners, 12-14 City Road, Winchester, SO23 8SG.

Spurs v Saints matches will never be the same again. Thanks Chalks for all the memories.

Darren Baldwin - THFC.

A great shame to lose him, all our thoughts are with his family. I will never be able to hear the words fantastic and wonderfull on a pitch discription without thinking of him

Too true Dougie, he will always be remembered as a true friend and a genuine person who had time for everyone, he was not just a sales rep.

Colin had the funiest storries of his time at the Dell and White Hart Lane, if any one writes a book on the life of a groundsman they must include Colin's memories.

Cheers Chalky we will all miss you here at St Mary's

Such a sad day to lose a fun loving person such as chalky, he was always well liked in every walk of life, i think everybody will remember him for his smile and laughter.
Thanks Chalky for those evenings at RT

colin will be sadly missed by all who knew him and i wont forget he always had time for everyone with his happy and bubbly personality and took as much interest in people personally as he did in their work.

Very sad News.
Colin was the first Representitive who really helped me in my first position and he really wanted to make a difference.
He was always happy to listen and couldnt wait to hear the holiday stories.
Thanks for the memories chalky.

So hard to put into words how I and my family feel about such a loss. I first met Colin after the game at his very first match as custodian of the pitch at White Hart Lane when we were both in our early twenties. We immediately became close friends and as a lifelong Spurs supporter, lived the dream as we shared many memorable times behind the scenes at the stadium and on match days.

I will always cherish the memories of evenings at our homes with our families, the many, many kickabouts and not least the atmospheric, big match Subbuteo clashes in the garage!

I, Lynda and your godson Kevin will never forget you. Our thoughts are with Ross & all your loved ones. Thanks mate for the memories.

Colin used to visit a golf course I worked at in his Rigby Taylor days, and it was always a case of extended tea-breaks when he arrived, because he would always have interesting stories to tell about his days at Spurs.

He was a very likeable and thoroughly decent bloke.

I am highly privileged to have known & worked with Colin for many years, his enthusiasm and optimism for all that he did was incredible, he brightened up many a customers day with his kind and polite manner.

I have been trying to cover his area in recent months and on my travels I have been over whelmed by how much you all have held Colin in your hearts. We will all truly miss him.

My sympathies to all his loved ones.

Thanks Colin and may you rest in peace

How very sorry I am to hear that Collin has passed away. I first met him as a rep for Rigby Taylor and he passed on a great deal of knowledge to me on soil managemet. He was always happy and had time for a cup of tea and a chat. Lost contact when he left.

My condolences to all of his family

Colin will be sadly miss by everyone at SFC Training Ground.

We have enjoyed his stories on many occasions of the good old days when he worked as a groundsman at Southampton and Spurs before he became a rep.
He was a genuinely nice bloke who always made time to speak.

Thanks for the memories Colin.

I first met Colin in the summer of 1985 at Tottenham. He had just turned down the chance of being my boss as Head Groundsman at Wembley. I really dont think i have ever met such a nice guy in this industry. To say i am shocked at his passing is an understatement as i was unaware of his illness.
My condolences to his family and loved ones and all that new him.

Rest in Peace Colin and keep telling those stories
