Otterbine Aerator is clear solution at Brampton Park

By Lucy Ohsten

Brampton Park Golf Club, near Huntingdon, has successfully overcome a long-standing problem of invasive weeds in a 4,000sq m lake by installing an Otterbine 5hp Gemini Concept 3 aerator.

The club's general manager Richard Oakes comments: "The lake has no natural current and this was causing a terrible build-up of weeds. Before we installed the Otterbine last September, there were two inches of fern, like glue, on the surface. We decided something had to be done."

Richard had seen before how effective Otterbine aerators were in solving similar problems. So as part of a Captain's Project to improve the site, he suggested the club bring in a unit.

"The results are very impressive - the lake is clear now," adds Richard. "The weeds didn't return after the winter die-down and there are so many other benefits too: the trumpet spray is visually stunning, it sounds lovely, it doesn't block up and the players on our 18-hole course catch glimpses of it as they play.

"We're delighted. Our motto here is 'quality on course'. Perhaps we should add 'quality on water' as well!"

Otterbine products are distributed by Lely (UK) Limited, Station Road, St. Neots, Cambridgeshire, PE19 1QH. Tel: 01480 226800 Fax: 01480 226801.
