Fairways GM of Inchinnan, RANSOMES JACOBSEN's dealer for Scotland, has delivered an extensive package of turf maintenance equipment to Douglas Park Golf Club on the outskirts of Glasgow.
Situated just five miles northwest of Glasgow city centre, a distinctive feature of the 5,962 yard course is The Antonine Wall, one of the most substantial and best preserved Roman frontier systems. It can be seen to the left of the 15th tee and follows a line of trees up to the 15th green and along a ridge to the 13th green. It has recently been declared a World Heritage site.
Drew McKechnie, Course Manager at the club, heads a team of just four greenkeepers and therefore needs equipment that he can rely on.
"We looked at all the major competitors' products and the finance packages they offered. We went with Fairways GM for two main reasons: first the quality of cut from their range of equipment and the fact that it's very greenkeeper friendly; and second being the five year finance package with a full service contract. We have a known monthly cost of operation for the next five years and that suits us fine.
"The Jacobsen G-Plex III greens mower is a particularly good machine; it keeps its cut forever, requiring little or no adjustment and that rear swing-out centre unit is excellent; it makes routine maintenance simple, quick and easy."
Douglas Park Golf Club opened in 1897 with a membership of just 56, which today stands at around 900. Various changes were made to the layout of the course, the last major renovations being the reconstruction of 15 greens over the last six years by Sportsgrounds Ltd, a sister company of Fairways GM.
