Council's Oval Maintenance Supervisor, Russell Fensom, has helped transform the playing field at BCU International Stadium into a world-class facility.

Russell Fensom insists there's no trick to creating what is widely regarded as possibly the best playing surface in regional NSW, except passion for the job.

Russ is the man who transformed the field at the BCU International Stadium from, in his words, "the Simpson Desert" into a top-flight facility that attracts Olympic and world-class teams.

His philosophy is simple - "You only get out of a job, what you put into it" - and it's an approach he shares with his four staff.

Between them, the team looks after 60 hectares of sports fields and ovals across the local government area.

"I've been involved in sport all my life - golf, bowls and football - and it helps to know what sort of surface you would like to play on. That's what we try and provide for everyone else," he said.

Russ has been a Greenkeeper for his entire working life, except for a short six months as a coal miner.
