After taking over the management of Tapton Park Golf Club in Chesterfield, Sheffield International Venues (SIV) has made a significant investment in new turf maintenance equipment from Ransomes Jacobsen, the Ipswich-based turf equipment manufacturer.
The new equipment, with a retail value in excess of £180,000, has been supplied by Golf & Turf Machinery, Ransomes Jacobsen's local dealer based at Mexborough.
Steve Fletcher is the Head Greenkeeper who has been at Tapton Park for 20 years. He is responsible for four greenkeepers, which is a lean team when it comes to maintaining the 18-hole and 9-hole courses plus an 18-hole chip and putt facility.
"We are really pleased that SIV have taken over the management here," he said. "The immediate impact that their investment has made to us is highly significant. We now have a fleet of top class equipment that allows us the opportunity to improve the quality of the playing surfaces. The terrain here at Tapton Park is fairly punishing with some steep gradients, which is why we need equipment with excellent traction and a superb cut that will provide a good finish. Even with a lean team we can now carry out our duties more efficiently and produce quality playing conditions for our members and visitors."
