Dave Wright formed Somerset Landscapes Ltd 15 years ago when he was made redundant from Somerset County Council. Today he employs 30 staff and has a burgeoning fleet of mowing equipment, predominantly from Ransomes Jacobsen, the Ipswich-based manufacturer.

For this season he returned to local dealer, PJ Flegg of Ottery St Mary, and added a further Ransomes Parkway triple and Ransomes Frontline 728 out front rotary to his growing fleet.

"Looking back, being made redundant all those years ago was one of the best things to happen to me," he said. "We've grown the business annually and recently retained a contract to maintain the grassed areas at 120 schools for Somerset County Council for the next seven years; that's on top of the work we do with numerous independent schools and colleges. We now have five Parkways, two 728s and a Ransomes Highway triple.

"We maintain 100 acres of grass at Westland Helicopters and also look after many cemeteries in the area, which are all 'cut and collect' contracts. For this we use two Iseki SXG 22s because they are very manoeuvrable and have an excellent collection system.

"Reliability is the key to our loyalty to the Ransomes brand and the service from Flegg's is always first class."
