By Claire Bishop

A sports turf student from Writtle College has scooped a job at the prestigious K Club in Ireland.

Ian Denny, 28, from Chelmsford, Essex starts work as assistant greenkeeper at the venue this weekend - just a few weeks after finishing his NVQ 2 Sports Turf at the college.

The club has two 18 hole golf courses and is the venue for the Ryder Club 2006.

One of Ian's first jobs will be cutting the fairways for the Smurfit European Open, which has been hosted at the club since 1995.

Ian worked at an office in London for around six years before deciding to study at Writtle for his one year sports turf course.

Ian, who worked at Channels Gold Club in Chelmsford while he was at Writtle College said: "I am very lucky to have got the job straight from college. My course at Writtle College has really prepared me for this job. I am very excited about the prospect of working at the club. "

I was Ian's lecturer during his NVQ; Ian was a very keen and earnest student, producing some very good work, He is now looking for a new position on a golf course somewhere in England. He is in touch with me so if youv'e got a vacancy please ring Writtle college and ask for Nigel.
