STONE DOMINOES FC CHAIRMAN HONOURED BY QUEEN

Stone Dominoes Football Club Chairman and Founder, Bob Bowers some weeks ago received a letter by Royal Command inviting him to a reception at Buckingham Palace on Monday 13th October 2003 to mark the contribution of "Pioneers to the Life of the Nation".

The Palace has defined Pioneers "as ground-breaking individuals who have changed and contributed something unique to the way we live, or set new examples for others to follow".

Bob being Bob, and only interested in promoting the good name of Stone Dominoes FC, its people and its Community, he swore us all to strict secrecy so that he could quietly sneek in to Buckingham Palace and collect his Award without any fuss.

Fortunately members of the press have been alerted to the story and therefore we thought it was important to let you know, as this fantastic honour is also an honour to the game of football itself, in Staffordshire.

Bob started Stone Dominoes FC at St Dominic's Catholic Beaver and Cub group in Stone with a team of 7 year olds, including his youngest son, Daniel in 1987. The rest, as they say, is history with the Club growing to full status as our area's first Charter Standard Community Club and, along the way, producing 6 international players and climbing 4 divisions in adult football in only 8 years.

The Club's reputation for quality football, first class sportsmanship and hospitality and integrity have contributed significantly to the sporting and wider community of Staffordshire.

At the reception Bob met the Queen, Prince Philip, the Duke of Kent and Prince Andrew, as well as a host of heroes of the nation from all walks of life including Sir Roger Bannister, Sir Chris Bonnington, Sir Cliff Richard, Sir Freddie Laker, Sir Trevor McDonald as well as 8 Nobel Prize Winners and a plethora of unsung heroes throughout the voluntary sector.
