Chelsea Football Club has taken delivery of its second Techneat SPPS 120 self-propelled pedestrian sprayer.
Chosen particularly for its light weight and low ground pressure, compared to a vehicle towed sprayer it leaves no visible evidence of its use on the pitch. "The sprayer is perfect for us, it does what it's meant to do," says Kevin Fowler, Assistant Head Groundsman at Stamford Bridge.
"The sprayer is easy to set up and use. With about two and a half fills of the 120L tank we can spray the match pitch in an hour and being so lightweight and self-propelled it is ideal in winter because it leaves no marks." What is also liked is the 4m covered boom, an important Health and Safety consideration in the stadium environment, with regular public tours taking place. Forward speed is controlled and the machine has excellent manoeuvrability.
Spraying is carefully calibrated as well with the use of Lechler bubble jet nozzles and the Bertolini Biocomplex control unit with pressure regulator. Chelsea also chose the optional 12v 2.5 litre Foam Bout Marker to help define the area covered while spraying.
Techneat designed and developed the SPPS 120 in close co-operation with many of the UK's top ground care specialists, aiming to produce a long life, low maintenance product. Chelsea has the machines serviced once a year in the off-season and say they receive excellent service from Techneat Engineering.
The SPPS models meet their demand for maintaining the quality of the main pitch in the stadium, with reliable and accurate fine turf chemical application all year round. There is no doubt the SPPS is in the premier league of sprayers.
