Toro demonstrates care for customers
By Lucy Ohsten
Toro turf equipment distributor Lely UK has brought in major enhancements to its field demonstration service as part of a series of initiatives aimed at making Toro the industry's No 1 for customer care.
A new specialist department has been created in its own right, with a dedicated, enlarged team of demonstrators, technicians and other support staff.
In addition, a new purpose-built 12-tonne MAN rigid-backed lorry, incorporating a new Cormack crane for lifting heavy equipment, has been added to the demo transportation fleet.
Demonstration supervisor Chris Walker heads up the department. He's been with the company 14 years. He says: "We've set up a stand-alone demo department because we believe it benefits our customers and provides essential sales support to dealers. It's an on-going process and we're improving all the time."
Ex-greenkeeper Rob Atwell joined Lely in January. He looks after customer demonstrations in the north and runs the new MAN vehicle. Mark Hurley, 15 years with Lely, covers the south, and Tim Townsend with 14 years' service looks after direct sales customers.
The demo team's movements and bookings are co-ordinated by Vince Tarbox at St Neots. He's the link between the team and the dealers. Two new faces in the workshop are Andrew Morgan, from the transport department, and Morris Kandekore, who joined in March. They are supported by Christine Wilson, the longest serving member of the team with nearly 32 years at St Neots.
"The logistics of getting machinery to the right destination at the right time is quite a challenge," says Chris. "But we have a good team and, we believe, the best machinery in the business. We are committed to having the best demonstration service."
