Over the past few months, the team at natural and non-turf playing surface specialist, total-play Ltd, has been touring the country helping clubs and schools of all levels to ensure their cricket facilities are on top form for the 2011 season.
The team recently completed a three-centre project in Northern Ireland, where works funded by Sport Northern Ireland included the installation of a two lane non-turf system at Belfast's Academy Sports Ground, a three lane system at Instonians CC and a match pitch at Dundrum CC.
Closer to home, total-play secured the contract to supply the historic Charterhouse School with a bespoke solution to upgrade its cricket facilities. A new non-turf playing surface has been installed to the school's existing batting nets to provide an area that will be used as a MUGA when the nets are removed. The team is also constructing a new natural turf square.
In Yorkshire, the company has just completed projects at Dunnington CC and Woodhouse Grange CC, where it installed a two-lane enclosed facility and a two lane, 27m system respectively; in both cases using total-play's tp365 non-turf pitch design which, carrying ECB approval, is popular with cricket clubs from grass roots to professional clubs.
Further south, a project at Oxford CC involved the installation of a 3 lane, 33m fully enclosed system; while Old Chelmsfordians CC in Essex received a 2 lane, 27m system. Linton Village CC in Cambridgeshire, meanwhile, commissioned total-play to replace an existing five bay practice facility that was beyond repair with a four lane 33m enclosed tp365 system, also opting for total-play's white line training aid in two of the lanes to help both batters and bowlers hone their skills.
MD at total-play, David Bates, says: "2011 is already proving a very busy year - both clubs and schools seem intent on improving their facilities and we've secured a diverse range of projects, from the installation of our non-turf pitch solutions through to the design and construction of natural playing surfaces and the repair and maintenance of existing pitches, both natural and synthetic."
