Andy Thompson, Head Groundsman at Doncaster's Keepmoat Stadium, is one of the first turf professionals to purchase the latest Turfco TriWave overseeder, marketed in the UK by Ransomes Jacobsen.

The Keepmoat is a £32 million multi-use stadium and is home to Doncaster Rovers Football Club, Doncaster Rugby League Football Club and Doncaster Belles Ladies Football Club. Not only is it used for sport, but also for concerts with Elton John performing before a capacity crowd last July.

"We purchased the TriWave back in May and it's really proved its worth," Andy Thompson said. "From the end of the last football season in May until the first game of this season in August the pitch was used 24 times! And this is when we are supposed to be renovating it.

"Elton John played a concert here on 12th July and the first game after that was a week later. When I got the pitch back on 14th July the area underneath the reinforced base for the stage was a bit of a mess. We immediately began a re-seeding programme and within the next five days we had a bloom of new grass coming through in time for the game. Now that's impressive! This was followed by three games in three days, so it goes to show the pressure put on this playing surface.

"It's a testament to the TriWave that we were able to achieve this; it places the seed in exactly the right position to give it the best chance of germinating. The seed nozzles ensure that at least 90% of the seed is utilised, which is excellent. It's a machine I would recommend to anyone."
