we have noticed recently on the pitch a lot of clover, is this normal for the time of year or is it because of the wet weather lately. Is it going to harm the pitch long term ?

You may find that it will crowd out the grasses you are trying to nurture. and the thing you may have already noticed is that it can be annoying that the day after you have mown the pitch and got your surface looking good, the clover springs back up into a slight cushion. Spoiling your efforts very quickly. Also as your pitch becomes hungry you will find that the clover patches remain a dark green in colour that can stand out prominantly. Due to the fact they manufacture their own nitrogen. If you leave it you may find it spreading very quickly, notice if you try to rake it you will bring up a large number of prostrate runners each rooting as they go ( A bit like strawberry plants - except no tasty fruits) I would recommend that you tackle the issue and get them removed using an appropriate selective weedkiller such as Clovatox.
