Message Board - Football: Huddersfield T V Birmingham Match on MOTD
6 Jan 2008 by EHU Mission Control
I 've just been watching MOTD and observed the codition of the pitches and the majority are a credit to the profession.
But what was the problem at Huddersfield ?
Am I correct is the stadium council owned (kirklees Council are known as skin flints anyway)
I started my careeer with them in 1973 and nothing seems to have change ( please correct me if I am wrong)
1.Is the pitch being run with the minimum budget and resources and staff ?
2 Was it becuase the recent weather ?
3 Do the hills at the back of the stadium cast too bigger shadow?
4 or just sometthing else?
No one can blame it on the Giants RL their last game was early September and their first game there for the new season is Mid February.
Its a great stadium with a great atmosphere, but what gone wrong with the playing surface (what a pity)
Can some clarify this for me

I have to admit it certainly didn't look good - and without doubt I've seen it look a lot better.
I think you're right in that the stadium is council owned. But I don't believe that they are responsible for the maintenance. I'd imagine at the moment that everything at Town is run with a minimum budget - last year they lost just over £1mil. A good cup run will certainly bring in some much needed cash.
Nice to see them stuff one up the brummies :) Fancy a match at Eastlands in the next round
Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.

Rather be away Jon, its bad enough we now have a replay.....
Regarding Huddersfield, what is worth remembering is that this was the very first Desso pitch installed, many of the first few to go in were constructed on different rootzones than they are today and are said to be very hard, I havent been on Huddersfield so I dont know if this is the case. With Desso, they give an estimated shelf life of the product as around 12 years, which is how long it has been in at Huddersfield. I dont watch much football on tv, especially at the lower levels, but Huddersfield almost always seem to have a home game when it is raining in what isnt a great place weather wise at the best of times. Also with it being dual use, how little renovation time must he have had in the pathetic excuse of a summer that we all had?

hes probably got the same amount with have this year 3 days LOL....then no game for 4 days then 2 games a week lol...then concert ....oh teh joys.
Lee,
I went over to Hull on friday, i learnt a great deal and had a great talk with Mark over there regarding there reno's etc, what do you have planned reno wise this year? as i am trying to put some kinda of plan together for this year, and seeing as though i have very little window of opportunity i had thought of the following:-
Scarify - 3/4 passes
Rake - 3 passes
Brush up Debris - 2 passes
Overseed with disc/drill seeder
Vertidrain
Thats about all i have in mind, do you think thats adequate for the 2nd year?
And then next year, without doubt i have to take the top off it.

No idea at the moment Andy as we have our final match on the pitch on the 19th May, Foo Fighters 2nd June, Bon Jovi 22nd June then a pre season game around 2nd August, though more could be added at any time.....probably do the renovation around May 2009!!!

The stadium is owned by Kirklees stadium development ltd. (ksdl) , the council have a 40% stake in it Town own a 40% share and the Giants 20% , but as the same person in Ken Davey owns both Town and the giants he in effect owns the stadium .
The pich was fine until a few weeks ago , too many games in horrendous conditions over the last few weeks have left it not at it's best , It's also had reserve and Youth cup games in december , and the giants start in 3 weeks .
The academy and giants training pitches look good though ,(my responsibility) .

Thanks for putting is in the picture Stevejack1
Is the academy and giants training ground at the halls of res or at Leeds Rd playing fields

After all the hoping we end up drawing Oldham - a team 1 point above us in the same league. I suppose it gives Town the best chance of getting to the last 16.
I'll be back;
I'm sure Steve will clear this up. I think the training grounds are at the leeds Rd playing fields though the Academy play their games at Storthes Hall.

Hey J.Law,
Drawing the biggest giant killers of the 3rd round aint that bad for you, after all WE WILL beat you to go to the last 16. All your ex-Oldham lot will mis-fire, particularly Beckett!!! You'll never beat us!! WE'll go on to the semi-finals and beat Man Ure and get our revenge from the '90's!!

Wishful thinking there Mick!!
7 Jan 2008 by jlawrence
Unfortunately Mick it's bad for both of us (we both miss out on a lucrative draw) but I suppose at least one of us will make more money by getting to the last 16.
Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.

Reserve games and youth games in December, that's shocking on a dual purpose pitch. The groundsman deserves a medal for putting up with so much crap.
Leeboy nice article in the groundsman magazine, we're thinking of heading up your way within the next two months, hope your kettle works!!

Town to beat Oldham 2-0 ? I wonder what odds the bookies will give me

I now know whats going on at Huddersfield, but can any one clarify the FA (Stands for my Fanny Adams) rules on who as the final say on what games should be allowed to take place. And the cancellation of matches.
A Referee is not a groundsman, a FA official is not a groundsman... so why do they have the final say?
The FA are no better than the twickers Farts
I have had my moan now

dpeyres. Watch it, you're already on thin ice. I'll have a word in the mornin!! I hope you get wet thru' tomorrow!
i'llbeback - I'll give you odds on that, given Hudds away form!!!!! Of course it'll be our luck Beckett WILL come back and haunt us, none the less I'm confident of a last 16 place which I am hoping is a money spinner!! Either way it'll be a good match!!

Hmm, chances of us keeping a clean sheet ;)
It'll either be 2-1 to Hudds or 3-0 to Oldham. I'm hoping for the first but i wouldn't dare put money on it.
Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.
27 Jan 2008 by jlawrence
Sorry we disappointed you mickjm.
Who'd have believed a clean sheet away, it was a nice touch Luke getting the goal :)
Bring on Man U in the next round, though Liverpool would do we should of had them last time we played 'em.
Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.

They dont do bad out at Hudders with what they have got.
They are under staffed and have below par equipment.
You remember how that was Andy surely it was only last year lol. Before Glen got his nice fat package of shiney new machines into you
Last year they weren't even in the postion to buy a second hand g860. They are stuck with a Mastiff thats falling to bits. No Brush or Scarifier.
You cant blame machinery for everything I know that. Having a little kit sure does help but.
Dont be to hard on the guys out there.
How do greenkeepers earn a living!!! ;-)

A good draw for the next round will work wonders for the bank balance - now just to start playing as determinely in the league and we'll be sorted.

None of us are being hard on the lads at Hudds
Its seems that the ones who hold the purse strings
who are the problem?
should the FA ensure that a a scale of expenditure for each level of the game is available to ensure that there is a common standard provided, rather than the silly wages paid to players
Rugby player(both codes who are fitter, train much harder, don't roll around when hurt, but play for a fraction of the money. and do not bleed their clubs dry
or even a percentage of the sponsorship money they recieved is set aside(MAKE IT A RULE) would help clubs in the lower divisions
MOAN OVER
TOWN TO DRAW LIVERPOOL NEXT ROUND AWAY?
you watch the get the poorest in terms of income generation
who do you think they will get !!

Nice draw for next round - at least we've a potential earner.
Now just to go one better than the 2-1 defeat at Chelsea the other year.
Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.

Best thing for town a draw and then beat them in the replay
you never know?
