Hi guys Head Groundsman on a dual purpose field (rugby and football) , just wondering what your opinions are on playing height to keep both sections happy? I was looking at about 28mm what you think.

For our Rugby/Football pitches we cut at 40mm.

A lot of this comes down to common sense with use, not so much the height of cut, I maintain ours at 30mm , but have the last say on use or cancellation of games.

Stand your ground I would say !

The future is bright, the future is EHU !

i cut football pitches at 25 mm and rugby at 38mm so anywhere in between should be fine

Probably not much help been in Aust but I do the same as Martyn Snell. Generally soccer wants 25mm and Rugby 35mm so when we have both codes on the same weekend we inform both hirers that the height will be 30mm. We call it a comprimise cut. Both are generally happy.

Thanks all for your opinions, think I will look at about 30mm

hi stuart
i am head groundsman at a rugby club in national 3 and set my height of cut at 30mm and they never complain ,
also look after a football and cricket club voluntary and also set the football at 30mm , no complaints there either , so think you will be ok

Do any football clubs moan if its 30mm and a really dry day? as if 30mm and wet then the length isn't too much of an issue as teh ball will zip around ok, but if long and dry the ball seems to hold up a lot more, or is that just my observation?
