Judging by the shops Christmas has come early so perhaps someone would buy you a roller as a Christmas present lol

\This is a general comment not aimed at anyone above in particular but at the end of the day you cant by a decent second hand roller for a budget that will probably/possibly only buy you one that has lots of fitter/parts costs hidden under a shiny new coat of paint or hidden by the smog of a smug purchaser who is more worried about how much it is rather than what it is......... kit is still worth what it is worth, just a case of how much can you negotiate off the price....................

You can get a useful roller for £1500.
Talk to the hire companies. Their rollers tend to be reasonably well looked after.
You're looking for a bomag type roller with a knackered vibrator. The hire companies tend to get rid of the rollers when the vibrators die - ie when they cease to be useful for their main market.
Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.

Sorry to disagree with you Barry but our club bought a roller for £1200, from a dealer who wanted it 'out of the way'. He also offered to regularly service it (at cost) if required.
Sumo - it's known as the British fine art of 'haggling'

British fine art... and haggling?
Constable and Hockney or Stothart and Pitt?
I see where you're coming from PP!

well there you go..... just goes to show there are bargains out there then..... has always been for me that you can never seem find them when you want them only just after you have bought something around expected prices lol or if you do it always ends up being condemned by a fitter just b4 you think its a steal lol...

We've a running, but not tip top Aveling Barford anyone can have for the scrap value of £500.
Estimated weight 2T. Split rear rolls. Very economical Diesel. Great on already firm ground, not ideal for very early season work.

One thing to check is the hydraulics on the roller. We got one a couple of years ago for 1000euro, a bomag. However the hydraulics were knackered and cost us 2000 more to replace. Just get a mechanic to check any potential purchase before you buy.
